Laundry to be picked up and returned on a weekly basis. The USDA APHIS pale cyst nematode (PCN) program collects soil samples from agricultural land and screens them in a laboratory for the presence of PCN, a state and federally quarantined pest of potatoes. Backpacks, lab coats, and rags are necessarily in carrying out the PCN programs mission of preventing spread of the pest and delimiting infestation areas. Maintaining cleanliness of these items is essential in ensuring that PCN and/or PCN-containing soil is not inadvertently spread to non-quarantine areas on employee clothing, tools, or equipment. Backpacks and rags are used by field crews for carrying personal necessities, water, food, and soil samples while working in remote areas. Rags are used to wipe down vehicles and equipment to mitigate the spread of PCN. Lab coats and rags are used the laboratory personnel screening soil samples for the presence of PCN. Lab coats prevent spread of PCN on employee clothing and rags are used to clean microscope slides and beakers. The PCN program requires laundry service throughout the year; however, the article type, and article quantity varies by season. For this reason, a piece rate is preferred and recommended.
