- Description
- Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center 2002 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030 580-23-1-026-0020 PURPOSE The Department of Veterans Affairs, NCO 16, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC), 2002 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030, Rapid Analytical Chemistry section of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service (PLMS) is requesting a contract for Tacrolimus Laboratory Testing supplies. Tacrolimus is a macrolide antibiotic derived from the fungus Streptomyces tsukubaensis. Like cyclosporine, tacrolimus inhibits calcineurin to suppress T cells. Tacrolimus is metabolized by CYP3A4, thus its concentrations are affected by drugs that inhibit (calcium channel blockers, antifungal agents, some antibiotics, grapefruit juice) or induce (anticonvulsants, rifampin) this enzyme. Tacrolimus has a narrow therapeutic range, and adverse effects are common, particularly at high dose and concentrations, making therapeutic drug monitoring essential. The purpose is to procure multiple items and reagents required for Tacrolimus Laboratory testing which is critical for monitoring whole blood tacrolimus concentration during transplant therapy.
