Description
The government intends to award a sole source simplified acquisition PO to Microwave Specialty Company for the following items: 00-60846Microwave Specialty Company Composite Reflector Antenna 00-60847Microwave Specialty Company Antenna Struts 1) X-Band feed reflector antenna (9.5 - 10.55 GHz) - The reflector is a parabolic cylinder that needs to follow a curvature in the XZ-plane using this formula: z=x^2/4f (f is the focal length) - the f/D (focal length to aperture size) is 1.43 - The parabolic cylindrical reflector has a size of 1.5m x 0.7m - The contour of the parabolic cylindrical reflector must support beam scanning in the azimuth plane, +/-20 Degrees, from 9.5 - 10.55 GHz. - The contour of the parabolic cylindrical reflector must support 3 electro-magnetic radiating modes from the feed horn. The TE11 mode is the primary summation beam pattern. The TM01 mode is the secondary difference beam pattern in the Azimuth plane. The TE21 mode is the secondary difference beam pattern in the Elevation plane. - The contour of the parabolic cylindrical reflector must support monopulse tracking patterns (TE11, TM01, TE21 modes). 2) The antenna is required to be machined from composite materials, instead of metal for weight. - composite should be carbon fiber and/or fiberglass - composite should have the same RF reflectivity (propagation) at X-Band compared to a metallic structure of the same size/shape. - needs to have a strut, capable of supporting a feed antenna. NIWC-PAC designed a custom parabolic cylindrical reflector antenna, to support future maritime Troposcatter communications. The size and contour of the antenna was custom designed to meet the link budget requirements for a Troposcatter communication link. The contour/curvature and size of the antenna are exacting, and we have tried to reach out to several vendors for fabrication. With the exception of Microwave Specialty Company (MSC), all vendors replied with a no-bid since the design was either too large to machine, or its contour/curvature too difficult to shape/stamp using conventional machining methods. MSC was the only vendor, out of 7, which was capable of machining our custom design
