- Description
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service (FS) has identified that improving forest management through enterprise digital transformation of wood product delivery would expedite the consistency and implementation scale of the Wildfire Crisis Implementation Plan (WCIP). The purpose of this acquisition is to increase the efficacy of wood product project pipeline implementation nationally through a cohesive theory of change for a stewardship-based, digitally transformed forest management mission delivery approach including, strategies, business requirements, blueprints, and specifications to meet that objective. This long-term, iterative, and systemic effort for digital transformation of wood product and forest management delivery is initiating with the Timber Gate System and Timber Information Manager (TIM). Wood products offer a scalable baseline workflow and exemplar for increasing project pipeline delivery overall in support of the WCIP, through the dimensioning and integration of mission delivery services within a project life cycle. The burn probability of wood products prioritizes it in forest management for scaled response action in the WCIP. In the West, multiple wood product return treatments are often needed before wildfire risk mitigation reaches levels where resiliency investment becomes viable for other forest resources and values. Wood products reflect complex ecosystem service, manufacturing, and supply chain issues at scale, and an equally complex within agency division of roles and functions at present. A focus on this supply chain resolution is intended to further amplify the ability to implement the overall intent and purpose of the WCIP. Over the last twenty years, wildfire planning, and incident control has seen billions in investment and development. To close the gap on the wildfire crisis, an equal investment in wood product supply chains and forest management cross-boundary project pipeline capability is needed.
