Description
Special Announcement Industry Day 2023 Hereford Inlet to Cape May Inlet Coastal Storm Risk Management Initial Construction Cape May County, New Jersey The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District would like to invite marine construction industry contractors to Industry Day 2023 for the Hereford Inlet to Cape May Inlet Coastal Storm Risk Management Initial Construction Project. Project Area and Authorization: The Hereford Inlet to Cape May Inlet Coastal Storm Risk Management Project is located along 5-mile Island in Cape May County, New Jersey. The authorized project consists of a dune and berm construction using sand obtained from an onshore borrow source located at the southern end of 5-mile Island (the Wildwoods). The project extends approximately 4.5 miles from Hereford Inlet to Cape May Inlet and encompasses the communities of North Wildwood, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and Lower Township. Dimensions of the project are a +16-foot North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88) dune, with a 25-foot wide dune crest on a 75-foot wide berm that is at +6.5 feet NAVD88. The plan includes approximately 64 acres of dune grass, 28,000 linear feet of sand fence, and 77 new or modified crossovers. The sand will be pumped from the southern borrow area using backpassing technology. Approximately 1.5 million cubic yards of sand will be moved during this project. The event will be held at the Crest Arts Pavilion and Tourism Center on November 3, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Check-in for the event will begin at 9:45 am. The meeting will be immediately followed by a site visit of the proposed borrow area originating at Wildwoods sign adjacent to the Wildwoods Convention Center. Site Visit Meeting Location and Check-in: Discussion and Q&A Session: Crest Arts Pavilion and Tourism Center, 6301 Ocean Ave Wildwood Crest NJ Site Visit: Wildwood sign, 4901 Ocean Ave Wildwood NJ The purpose and focus of the event will be to seek marine construction industry input and their questions regarding best practices for the technical execution of the initial construction of the beach nourishment for the communities of North Wildwood, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and Lower Township. The work entails constructing a berm at elevation 6.5 feet (NAVD88) in North Wildwood and a continuous dune system in all four communities. Sand must come from the designated onshore and nearshore borrow area in Wildwood and Wildwood Crest. Sand for the berm construction must be hydraulically placed. Sand for the dune construction can be hydraulically or mechanically moved. Work is in a dynamic coastal/tidal environment. Staging areas will be provided along the project limits.Subsequent to the meeting, a site visit will immediately follow for attendees to ask additional questions. All interested attendees must pre-register by email using the attached registration form no later than October 31, 2023, to: Erik.J.Rourke@usace.army.mil (Project Manager) Brooke.L.Patterson@usace.army.mil (Contracting Officer) Telephone requests will not be accepted.
