This project is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Continuing Authorities Program - Section 111 Project, Cape Cod Canal and Sandwich Beaches Shore Damage Mitigation, Dredging of the Scussett Beach nearshore borrow area northwest of the Canals north breakwater at the east end of the Canal is needed to amend the beach dune and beach berm profile at Town Neck Beach in Sandwich, Massachusetts. This project will be completed using a hydraulic dredge and pipeline and consists of removing a total of about 277,000 CY of sand from the Scussett Beach Borrow Area (SBBA). Dredging within the established footprint of the SBBA will be to a maximum elevation of -18 Mean Lower Low Water (MLLW). The material dredged from the SBBA will be pumped directly onto the beach via an estimated length of 9,000 feet of hydraulic pipeline. Crossing the Canal with the hydraulic pipeline will be required between the SBBA and Town Neck Beach. Within the limits of the Canal the top of pipeline must be submerged at all times to depths equal to or greater than -38 feet MLLW. Dredged material that is pumped directly onto Town Neck Beach will be spread, shaped, and graded to meet the beachs required beach berm and dune profile. The Government is providing a DRAFT version of a selected portion of the project specifications and drawings for industry review and comment. These documents are in draft format only and are subject to change if/when a solicitation for this project is released. The Government is interested in industrys response to the following question (but additional comments will be accepted). The Government will consider all responses but is not required to make any changes as a result of the comments received. Question: Does industry see any concerns with installing and laying up to 2 miles of submerged hydraulic pipeline along the seabed that includes the crossing of an active federal navigation channel, anchoring of submerged pipeline to seabed, and routine underwater inspections of submerged pipeline to ensure no leaks and anchoring to seabed is maintained? Submerged pipeline(s) crossing the East Entrance Channel shall be set at a minimum depth of -38 feet mean lower low water (MLLW), measured to the top of the hydraulic pipeline. Firms shall provide responses via email and are due by 2pm Eastern, 1/22/2024. Responses should be emailed to: ann.m.adley@usace.army.mil .
