GD-MS is the current and only qualified source as the design agent, manufacturer, assembler, and test agent for MK 48 MOD 8 HWT G&Cs capable of meeting the Government's requirements. This contract action will be awarded pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1). Program Executive Office (PEO) Undersea Warfare Systems (PEOUWS), Undersea Weapons Program Office (PMS 404), is the Program Office responsible for this program. The MK 48 HWT torpedo is the U.S. Navys primary submarine launched anti-submarine (ASW) and anti-surface warfare (ASUW) weapon. The MK48 MOD 8 is the latest iteration of the HWT torpedo. It is a high performance, self-propelled underwater vehicle that contains complex electronic and mechanical subassembly systems for providing propulsion, steering, navigation, and target detection. The system technologies include acoustic sonar, G&C electronics, electrical power, hydraulic systems, mechanical pumps, and propulsion. The proposed contract action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all expressions of interest received within fifteen (15) days after date of publication of this synopsis, will be considered by the Government. Any submissions will not be reimbursed by the Government -- the entire cost of any submission will be at the sole expense of the source submitting the information. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. This synopsis is for informational purposes only. Companies interested in subcontracting opportunities must contact GD-MS directly.
