- DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE (DAF) CATEGORY MANAGEMENT (CM) REQUEST FOR FEEDBACK RESPONSE TO THIS POST DOES NOT COMMIT THE GOVERNMENT TO ANY CURRENT OR FUTURE PROCUREMENT. RESPONSE IS VOLUNTARY AND DOES NOT COMMIT THE GOVERNMENT TO ANY CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION. THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT REIMBURSE ANY RESPONDER FOR ANY COSTS IN PREPARING A RESPONSE. Industry Feedback on Software as a Service Common Terms 1.0 Introduction The Department of the Air Force (DAF) is a significant consumer of IT products and services to fulfill its mission. Innovations in Software as a Service (SaaS) present opportunity for the DAF to expedite the deployment of capabilities. To enhance our communication with industry regarding SaaS needs, the DAF is seeking input from industry on a standardized set of SaaS terminology. The intent is that these terms serve as a foundation for future market research requests, contracts, service catalogs, service level agreements and other communications both with industry and within the DAF. The goal is to utilize consistent and up-to-date terminology to help reduce ambiguity and confusion, thereby accelerating our ability to address requirements effectively. 2.0 Request for Feedback Attachment (1) to this post is a draft list of SaaS terms the DAF has curated. Attachment 1 contains three tabs. We are seeking input as follows: a. Tab 01 - Review the DAF Draft Terms: Please review Tab 01 in Attachment 1 and provide any clarifications or comments on the definitions. We have no pride of ownership on the content so please help us get it right. b.Tab 02 - Additional Terms: On Tab 02, please advise if there are other SaaS specific terms not listed inTab one (1) that you recommend industry, and the DAF use as a common term and definition set. For those terms you recommend, please provide a description of what the term means. Please avoid recommending any proprietary terms. We are seeking common industry accepted terms. c. Tab 03 - Recommend Ways to Stay Up to Date: On Tab 03, please suggest ways that industry and the DAF can stay current on terminology and promote standardization of terms. Please note that we are specifically focused on SaaS terms that will aid in communicating requirements and capabilities. Standard software agreement terms related to warranty, indemnification, intellectual property protection, and other contractual and usage terms need not be addressed here. We request that your responses concentrate on terms that define what a SaaS service is, how it is sold and consumed, technical considerations, and usage types. 3.0 Response Instructions We request responders use the attached template in your responses.
