Description
Weather Station Upgrade: Abiquiu Lake Dam, New Mexico Cochiti Lake Dam, New Mexico Conchas Lake Dam, New Mexico John Martin Lake Dam, Colorado Santa Rosa Lake Dam, New Mexico Trinidad Lake Dam, Colorado In accordance with these specifications the Contractor must supply all plant, labor, materials, appurtenances, equipment, shop facilities, supervision, tools, staging, and any other items necessary to procurement, installation, programming, and configuration of updated meteorological monitoring system equipment. The system will consist of a new weather sensor suite measuring key parameters including, but not limited to, temperature, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and solar radiation. Data will be collected by a satellite linked data logger and transmitted via a GOES satellite antenna to the National Weather Service (NWS) in accordance with established data submission standards. Additionally, a new evaporative gauge with an automatic refill system will be installed to provide accurate measurements of evaporation rates. This system upgrade is critical for enhancing flood risk management capabilities, improving the accuracy of hydrological modeling, and supporting informed decision-making regarding reservoir operations and dam safety. The contractor will be responsible for all aspects of the installation, including site preparation, equipment mounting, electrical connections, data configuration, system testing, and documentation, ensuring full compliance with USACE and NWS regulations and cybersecurity protocols. The Contractor must verify all existing conditions, dimensions, and quantities prior to start of work. Current weather monitoring infrastructure is aging and has limited measurement capability. These accuracy improvements will enhance assessment of hydrologic conditions and improve prediction and response to extreme weather events. This project addresses this need by upgrading and expanding the existing weather station network, ensuring consistent, high-quality data transmission to the NWS via GOES satellite, and providing critical input for improved hydrologic modeling, ultimately bolstering the USACEs ability to fulfill its mission through cooperative efforts with the NWS.
