Solid-State Pressure Sensors: The catheter utilizes miniature solid-state sensors (4 mm long with 2 mm active sensing area) spaced 1 cm apart. Diameter: The esophageal HRM catheter is approximately 8F (2.75 mm in diameter). Length: The pressure sensors are located along a 26.5 cm length of the catheter. Central Balloon Inflation Lumen: The catheter includes a central lumen for balloon inflation, which is used in some procedures. Circumferential Sensing Regions: The catheter features 16 circumferential sensing regions with 256 total sensors. Anorectal Version: A 10 mm diameter solid-state three-dimensional anorectal catheter is also available, says Medtronic. Digital Data Assimilation: The catheter's data can be assimilated digitally, allowing for the use of software tools to analyze peristaltic sequences and motor metrics like distal contractile integral (DCI), distal latency (DL), and integrated relaxation pressure (IRP). Versatile Applications: The catheter can be used to assess various esophageal motility disorders, including ineffective esophageal motility (IEM) and outflow obstruction.
