Phone (703)604-0903 The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to
procure additional Common Automatic Recovery (CARS) units, ship motion
sensors, contract logisitics support, spare and repair parts and
associated data under existing contract N00019-94-C-0239. Proposed
changes to the baseline CARS configuration by Sierra Nevada Corporation
(SNC) to improve the manufacturability, reliability and maintainability
of the system to assess the transition to full rate production will be
examined by the Government. SNC is the designer, developer and sole
manufacturer of the CARS system and as such is the only source which is
capable of fulfulling the Government's requirements within the
necessary time period. These systems are necessary to meet the
Government's requirements for fielding CARS units with the Joint
Tactical-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (JT-UAV) system. Delivery of the first
CARS production unit is scheduled for January 1996. This synopsis is
