The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), FAA Technical Center, Aviation Security R&D office, has been directed to determine the feasibility of blast mitigating airline baggage container designs which will conform to commercial aircraft specifications. The FAA through a research grant, has authorized the Great Lakes Composites Consortium (GLCC), 8401 Lake View Parkway, Suite 200, Kenosha, Wisconsin, 53142-7403, to evaluate existing hardened airline baggage container design concepts in an operational environment. Vendors are being sought as suppliers of blast resistant airline baggage containers to evaluate the feasibility of mitigating explosive blast effects within the containers. The Great Lakes Composites Consortium, Inc. under a Cooperative Research Grant with the Federal Aviation Administration, is interested in those experienced in the design and manufacture of blast mitigating airline baggage containers that will conform to international standards and commercial specifications. Anyone wishing to respond to this announcement should provide company literature, relative publications, and a summary of any prior related work in the design and fabrication of blast resistant airline baggage containers. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not construed as a commitment by the Great Lakes Composites Consortium, Inc. or the United States Government nor will either party pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resulting solicitation for the requirement.
