Rothe Development, Inc. is a prime contractor for NASA JSC. Rothe is required to produce three-dimensional solid prototype models and to manufacture operational hardware which will be employed on the Space Shuttle and Space Station. Both the prototype and operational hardware items will be required to meet stringent NASA flight hardware and life support systems specifications. The system must be capable of producing single or multiple parts simultaneously using polymers (i.e. ABS, PVC, nylon, polyester, polystyrene, epoxy), metal and ceramic materials with no modification or conversion of the machine. The machine shall utilize a control system which shall receive design data in standard .STL (slice) file format from an engineering CAD/CAM model. The control device will direct a laser model-forming device which converts CAD/CAM data into a usable format for creating the part.
