Specifically this cryocooler will be used in the buildup and long-term groung testing of a prototype propellant production, cinditioning, and storage breadboar d system in which it will be used to liquefy O2 gas generated by upstream processing equipment. The eventual flight application of this technology will be to liquefy O2 generated from the Martian atmosphere over the cour se of a 500 day operating period, for use as a propellant for the trip back to earth.
