975-6332/C.O.: Pauline Mallgrave (301) 975-6330 The National Institute
of Standards and Technology, Gaithersburg, MD is seeking sources for
its proposed 42,236 gross square meter Advanced Technology Laboratory
who can provide a manufactured ceiling system consisting of steel faced
panels constructed of a minimum of two each 1 mm minimum electrozinc
steel panels enclosing extruded polystyrene, rockwool, or other
suitable inert insulation material for a total thickness of
approximately 85mm enclosed at the edges by a cold formed steel frame--
Panels shall be part of a system which includes integral connectors for
interlocking adjacent panels at their joints, adjustable suspension
devices which provide a support means to the panels as well as provide
a means for their attachment to the structure, and the necessary trim
pieces providing an aesthetically pleasing and flat, flush and
homogeneous ceiling surface conducive to cleaning and the maintaining
of a clean laboratory environment- -Additionally, the panel system
shall have the capability to support loads resulting from maintenance
and repair personnel walking on the panels on their upper
surfaces--Panel system shall be capable of supporting a concentrated
load of 125 daN at any 300mm x 300mm spot on the face of a panel, and
must be capable of supporting a maximum uniformly distributed load of
approximately 1500 N/m2--Panel sizes are 900mm and 1200mm in width and
1800mm in length and shall be manufactured to metric
dimensions--Panels shall be engineered with a minimum safety factor of
3 based on ultimate strength under static loading conditions and shall
not deflect more than 1/720 of the span in either the vertical or
horizontal plane when maximum loading conditions are applied--The
Panels shall be non- shedding and non-outgassing and shall be
non-progressive in their installation and removal--Panels shall have an
