The intended use of these trailers involves frequent relocation requiring long distance highway transport within fourteen states west of the Mississippi. The normal gross vehicle weight during transport is estimated to be 18,000 pounds per trailer. Quotes must meet/conform to the following applicable codes/regulations: NEC, 1993; UBC, 1994; UMC, 1994:U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION, FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER REGULATIONS; 49 CFR, REV. MARCH 1992 and specifications listed in the Request for Quote. THIS PROCUREMENT IS A SMALL BUSINESS SET ASIDE. The successful bidder shall be required to furnish design calculations and materials specification to show conformance with design requirements prior to award. The trailer frame system shall be of steel fabrication, protected to prevent corrosion, and specifically designed and manufactured to accomodate the intended use. The design shall consider the adverse effects of frequent long-distance transport, the effects of impact loading due to highway conditions, and vibration of the complete system durng transport. The successful bidder shall be required to submit plans, drawings, and a detailed quality control plan to the Government upon notification and shall allow the Government to made periodic inspections during the progress of each trailer's construction.
