Pauline Mallgrave (301) 975-6330 The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to procure through full and open competition a piston-gage system capable of operating as a primary pressure standard in the atmospheric pressure range. The gage must have dimensional uncertainties in effective area of no greater than two parts per million at the two- sigma level, evaluated in accordance with the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement. The ratio of the average clearance between the piston and cylinder to their average radius must be no greater than 30 parts per million. The gage must be capable of operating with both nitrogen and helium gas in both absolute and gage modes. The starting mass load and pressure must be no greater than 500 grams and 2.5 kPa respectively; the ending pressure must be 175 kPa or higher for both absolute and gage modes. The gage must be capable of operating in controlled-clearance mode. The required delivery schedule (FOB Destination - Gaithersburg) for this requirement is ninety (90) days from contract award (including inspection and acceptance testing). All prospective offerors shall demonstrate satisfactory technical understanding, compliance to technical specifications, and corporate/demonstrated experience in the development and manufacture of similar piston-gage systems. All potential sources are invited to submit a proposal which will be considered by the agency.
