Springer, 304/480-6465 The Bureau of the Public Debt (Public Debt) is assessing the market to determine the feasibility of using GUI development/authoring tools in major application systems development efforts. Products must be compatible with our current environment which includes an Amdahl 5990-1400 CPU with an MVS/ESA operating system and an Ethernet local area network running Novell NetWare. Public Debt is interested in creating a graphical view for users of mainframe-based applications. The client workstation is Microsoft Windows 3.1 and higher. The product must operate using send and received commands through terminal transactions defined to VTAM and CICS. The product(s) must: (a) create graphical interfaces for mainframe-based systems; (b) perform 3270 ''screen scraping'' of host-based screens; and, (c) require minimal user training (user-friendly). Desirable optional features would include the capability to: provide application program interfaces; and, provide SQL support for major relational data base management systems on different platforms. Public Debt is requesting technical product literature, only, at this time. However, at Public Debt's option, evaluation software, product demonstrations, and/or technical presentations to be held on site in Parkersburg, West Virginia, may be requested from vendors responding to this announcement. Please note that this information is being requested for information and planning purposes only as Public Debt is primarily interested in assessing the viability of this technology. The Government does not intend to award a contract or otherwise pay for the information requested. Public Debt will assess the ability of the market to meet the needs as stated above based on the information received. Dependent upon the results of this market survey, Public Debt may issue a solicitation to acquire the appropriate tool(s).
