The Weather Management Branch, HQ SSG OL-B/SDFM, is seeking information to identify sources who can provide Transportable Very Small Aperture Terminals (T-VSAT's) capable of receiving high data rates (HDR) via a satellite communications network currently being installed for the Automated Weather Distribution System (ADWS). Data rate of the network outroute will be 512 kbps with a 128 kbps inroute and will use the Ku-band spectrum. The T-VSAT's Digital Indoor Unit (DIU) will need to interface with a laptop via an asynchronous line at 512 kbps (to correspond with the stated receive rate) with full duplex capability. The total T-VSAT system cannot be any larger that three (3) suitcases. It should require maximum two (2) people to setup or teardown in maximum one (1) hour. Ideally, information that considers Hughes Network Management capability is desirable, but alternative concepts are of interest. Your response should include system architectural configuration (no detailed cost/pricing data) and technical literature. Proprietary data should be clearly marked as such.
