Information Agency's Voice of America (VOA) Relay Station in Belize,
Central America is accepting applications for use of available
NIGHTTIME broadcast hours on their two 100,000 watt AM band
transmitters in Belize. The transmitters, located at Punta Gorda, are
capable of reaching major metropolitan area within Guatemala, Honduras,
Nicaragua, and El Salvador, as well as portions of Costa Rica and the
Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. This represents a coverage area of nearly
20 million people. These transmitters can presently be heard on 1580
kHz or 1530 kHz each evening form 0100 UTC to 0400 UTC (7pm - 10pm
Central Standard Time), as they broadcast scheduled Voice of America
programs in Spanish and English, since 1986. The Station's antennas are
one of a kind, horizontally polarized (skywave only - nighttime), with
the 1580 kHz signal beamed on an azimuth of 148 degrees, and the 1530
kHz signal beamed on an azimuth of 228 degrees. Effective Radiated
Power (ERP) is 1,500,000 watts. Available broadcast hours for leasing
will be from 0000 UTC till 0100 UTC (6pm - 7pm) and immediately
following any scheduled VOA programs until 1200 UTC (local sunrise) the
following morning. Broadcasters wishing to lease time on these
transmitters, on an hourly basis, will be required to furnish their
programming to the site via Satellite TVRO or SCPC channels. Recorded
or tape medium delivery considered on case-by-case basis. If
