COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 20,1996 PSA#1534Naval Research Laboratory, 4555 Overlook Ave., S.W., Washington, D.C.
20375-5326 A -- SOURCES ARE BEING SOUGHT FOR LIGHT WEIGHT STRUCTURES FOR VARIOUS
SPACECRAFT DEVELOPMENT FLIGHT PROGRAMS POC Code 8210, Nick Davinic.
Sources are being sought by the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to
provide low cost, light weight structures for various spacecraft
development flight programs. NRL is interested in companies with
capabilities in the following areas: high strength/high stiffness
materials, control-structures interactions (smart structures), gossamer
structures, multi-functional structures, rapid prototyping and
innovative manufacturing methods, advanced quality control/assurance
and testing. Specific interests include graphite/polymer matrix
composites, metal matrix composites, advanced metallic alloys, passive
or active damping and vibration suppression systems, inflatable booms
and parabolic dishes, structures with embedded thermal management
(heat pipes) or electronics (wiring harnesses) hardware, advanced
inspection techniques (ultrasound, tomography, X-ray). Respondees are
encouraged to include new ''cutting edge'' applications in the
structural design and development of space vehicles and their
components. In addition, a summary of qualifications and previous
development experience should be included. Responses shall include two
copies of the requested information, are due no later than 45 days
after the issue date of this synopsis, and should be no longer than 15
pages per copy. NRL recognizes the need to protect proprietary
information. Restricted and proprietary data must be clearly marked and
presented as an addendum to the non-restricted response to this
request. Any and all proprietary data shall be protected and will not
be released without the expressed approval of the source. This request
is for planning purposes and supports ongoing development activities
in spacecraft programs. This request shall not be construed as a
request for proposal (RFP), an Invitation for Bids (IFB), or as an
obligation on the part of the Government to acquire any follow on
capabilities. The Government does not intend, at this time, to award a
contract or otherwise pay for information provided. No entitlement to
payment of direct costs or charges by the Government will arise as a
result of submissions of responses. Any procurement will be separately
synopsized in the Commerce Business Daily. Send information to: Naval
Research Laboratory, Spacecraft Development Section, Code 8210, ATTN:
