Washington DC 20375 70 -- HIGH SPEED LARGE-MEMORY SUPERCOMPUTER SYSTEM SOL
N00014-96-R-ET01 POC Evelyn Taylor, Contract Specialist, Code 3240.ET,
(202) 767-2983 F. Janilea Bays, Contracting Officer, Code 3240.JB. The
Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has a requirement for a high-speed
large-memory supercomputer system to support research and development
of advanced floating-point compute-intensive models and simulations
written in both C and FORTRAN. NRL's present system is a Convex C-3 (4
CPUs, 1 GFLOPS peak, 2 GByte physical memory) and ancillary
workstations. The supercomputer system must provide a UNIX operating
system and be capable of meeting larger memory and throughput goals
both for multiple job streams and single jobs amenable to parallel
execution on multiple processors. This system must provide a powerful
parallel programming environment for both C and FORTRAN, and Motif
X/Windows graphical user interface. The system must perform as a single
exceptionally fast workstation or uniprocessor capable of handling
large memory, and multiple day tasks. The minimum requirements include:
CPU performance on standard parallel benchmarks; 8 GByte (aggregate) of
physical semiconductor memory; 12 Gbyte (aggregate) virtual memory
(physical plus paging); fast/wide SCSI-2 removable cassette disks; SCSI
8mm and 4 mm tape and CD-ROM; Ethernet & FDDI; UNIX O/S with standard
user and admin features including X & Motif; C & FORTRAN
optimizing/parallelizing compilers; C++ compiler or preprocessor to C;
C, C++ and FORTRAN debugging and profiling tools; standard UNIX
(TCP/IP) networking, including NFS & NIS; optimized math libraries; AVS
& other data visualization software; and support of network backups.
This acquisition consists of hardware, software and three (3) full
years of warranty. Vendors shall be responsible for equipment
installation and acceptance testing. A Pre-proposal conference is
anticipated. NRL application benchmarks will be available for
evaluating speed and coding effort. Time will be allotted for vendors
to port and optimize each benchmark. Anticipated delivery to be 60 days
after date of contract with three (3) years warranty and two (2)
one-year maintenance options. Secret level security clearance required.
Complete specifications are available as part of NRL Solicitation No.
N00014-96-R-ET01, which is to be released unrestricted. Telephone
requests for this solicitation will not be honored. All responsible
sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the Agency.
