COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 8,1996 PSA#1568U.S. Postal Service, 3001 Prosperity Ave., Dewey Bldg., Merrifield, VA
22082-8150 39 -- PRIORITY MAIL SUPERSORTER DUE 042696. Contact Point, Susan M.
Brownell, Contracting Officer, (703) 280-7810. The Postal Service has
an urgent need to obtain a sortation system to handle parcels and
flats. We are seeking qualification statements from only those firms
who can adequately demonstrate installed equipment with the following
capabilities: ability to sort machineable flats and parcels (as defined
in the Domestic Mail Manual) at a rate exceeding 10,000 pieces an hour;
read bar-codes on all size sides of a parcel; automatically singulate
and induct flats and parcels; weight and measure parcels and flats
in-motion; and be capable of being installed in different
configurations (number of separations and physical layout). To be
considered qualified, firms shall possess the resources to manufacture,
deploy, and support the installation of 50 sorters in 1997. (This does
not imply that the Postal Service will install this quantity of
sorters.) Interested firms should prepare a summary of their
qualifications, not to exceed twenty (20) pages, which must include
specific information on installed systems that possess the capabilities
described above as well as relevant past performance information. Only
those firms who are determined to be qualified will be considered for
any resulting contracts. Interested firms should submit qualification
statements no later than April 26, 1996. (093) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0191 19960405\39-0001.SOL)
