(713) 483-1863. NASA/JSC is announcing an industry briefing on the
concepts of the International Space Station as an Engineering Center
(ISSEC). The Goal is to maximize the use of the International Space
Station as a unique on-orbit laboratory for long duration and
reconfigurable development of technology products and to foster
partnerships with other U.S. Government, industrial, and academic
communities. A continuous 2-year requirement to implementation cycle is
anticipated. Identified areas of interest for technology investigations
and facility development include: Space Environment and Effects;
Structures and Mechanisms; Commercial Remote Sensing; Communications;
Advanced Instruments; Telerobotics and Operation; Power and Propulsion;
Thermal Management; and Information Systems. This also includes the
incorporation of commercial business practices to streamline process
and approaches. An information workshop is planned for May 21 and 22,
1996, at the Johnson Space Center. Participation is limited to three
(3) participants per company or major division. Response to attend is
required. Further limitations may be necessary due to space
availability. Responses to attend are required by May 10, 1996.
