The purpose of this modification is to clarify our previous announcement, referenced as SOL RFI 96-048, published 3/28/96. No solicitation is to be issued. The Department of the Treasury, Bureau of the Public Debt, is interested only in obtaining technical information to determine the ability of the market to supply help desk software tools which will be useful for a customer-oriented data processing environment. The specifications listed in our 3/28/96 announcement are desired features, not requirements. Please note that this information is being requested for information and planning purposes only. The Government does not intend to award a contract or otherwise pay for the information requested. On the basis of information received, we will assess the ability of the market to meet our needs in this area. Dependent upon the results of this assessment of the market, the Government may then decide to issue a solicitation to acquire such software. (0096)
