Request for information. Improved Thermoplastic Binders for Pyrotechnic Munitions. The U.S. Army Armament Research, Development, and Engineering Center (ARDEC) is initiating a Request FOR Information (RFI) to support a study for the Performance Enhancement of Pyrotechnic Munitions via Environmentally Acceptable Thermoplastic Binders which have High Loading/Compression Strength. THE information for the said Binders shall include the following: (A) Physical, Chemical and Toxicity Characteristics, (B) Storage, Handling and Operating Requirements, (C) Shelf-life under normal Storage conditions, (D) Normal Operating Temperature Range and Thermal Stability, (E) Vulnerability to Hostile Environments, e.g., Temperature, Humidity, (F) Commercial Market Availability and Unit Cost, (H) Loading/Compression Properties, and (I) Typical Commercial/Military applications. The information should be Submitted no later than one month from date of publication of this Notice to the POC and address listed above. This RFI should not be construed as a Request For Proposal or an Obligation on the part of the Government to include ideas in any part of its study. The Government does not intend to award a Contract on the basis of this RFI or otherwise pay for the information provided. No basis for claims against the Government shall arise as a result of a response to this RFI or Government use of such information. As stated previously, this RFI does not constitute the Solicitation of Proposals. The information provided may be utilized by the Army in developing its approach to the objective stated above. Based upon the conclusion of the study the Government may solicit 1 Gallon samples. Request respondents to the above RFI also provide an estimated cost of 1 Gallon samples. (0103)
