The Federal Bureau of Prisons is constructing a 513 bed medical facility in Butner, North Carolina. Butner is located 15 miles NNE of Durham and 35 miles NNW of Raleigh. The facility is designed to accommodate 306 medical/surgical and 207 psychiatric patients. The estimated completion date for the hospital is early 1998, with acceptance of patients in mid 1998. The hospital will provide a variety of evaluation and treatment modalities, to include the following: General and Orthopedic surgery, Radiation Oncology, Renal Dialysis; a full range of diagnostic imaging procedures to include MRI, CT Scan, Nuclear Medicine, Angiography, Ultrasound, and Fluoroscopy; Speciality Services to include Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, EKG, EEG, EMG/EP Services, and Cardiac Stress Testing; Laboratory/Pathology Services, Dental Services, Nursing Services, Pharmacy Services; Comprehensive Physician Services to include Family Practice, internal Medicine, Nephrology, Urology, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Optometry, and other physician specialty services. Additional services, to include Biomedical Maintenance, Medical Record Maintenance, and Dietician services may be desired. All services, when possible, will be provided on-site at the Butner Correctional Complex.
