COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 10,1996 PSA#1592NASA Langley Research Center, Industry Assistance Office, MS 144
Hampton, Va. 23681-0001 59 -- CONVERSION OF 600 VOLT AIR CIRCUIT BREAKERS FROM ELECTRO-
MECHANICAL TRIPPING UNITS TO SOLID-STATE TRIPPING UNITS POC Linda P.
Fitzgerald, Industry Assitance Office (804) 864-2461. Langley Research
Center (LaRC) is considering converting 600 volt class air circuit
breakers from electro-mechanical trip to solid-state trip and is also
considering remanufacturing of 600 volt class air circuit breakers.
Breakers under consideration to be converted include those manufactured
by General Electric, ITE, Westinghouse, and Allis Chalmers from
approximately 1950 to 1980 with frame sizes of 225, 600, 800, and 1600
amperes. Information is being sought on the availability of services
to perform these functions. Companies that are interested in providing
engineering data to be used when the specifications are being prepared
are requested to submit (as a minimum) the following data:
(1)Information on the proposed method of converting circuit breakers
from electro-mechanical trip to solid-state trip and for
remanufacturing circuit breakers. Information should include brochures,
documentation, literature, remanufacturing details, testing
requirements, national standards (such as IEEE and ANSI) that the
converted breakers are required to meet, and budget estimates. Breaker
with ratings of 225, 600, and 1600 amperes are to be considered.
Estimates for converting to solid-state trips and for a complete
remanufacture should be priced separately. (2)Information on any
programs offered by your company for exchanging converted breakers with
Government-owned circuit breakers or any loan programs while the
Government-owned circuit breakers are being converted. (3)Information
on maintenance anticipated for the converted breakers. Please submit
the required information as stated above to NASA Langley Research
Center, Industry Assistance Office, M/S 144, Hampton, VA 23681-0001.
Technical questions regarding this requirement can be directed to Carl
E. Horne, telephone (804) 864-7260. This information is for planning
and designing purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by
the Government, nor will the Government pay for the information
solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the
evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in
any resulting solicitation for the requirement. Firms responding should
indicate whether they are a socially or economically disadvantaged
business firm, an 8(a) firm, a small business, and/or woman-owned
business. The Government reserves the right to consider a small or 8(a)
set-aside based on responses hereto. All responses shall be submitted
with 14 days from the date of publication of this announcement. In
