Dawn Ernst, Task Group POC, 315-330-3225; e-mail - ernstd@rl.af.mil.
The second meeting of the Modular Multifunction Information Transfer
Systems (MMITS) Forum will be held on June 11, 12 at the Motorola
complex in Schaumburg, IL. Driven by the proliferation of mobile
cellular, PCS and satellite systems, over 100 representatives of more
than 50 domestic and foreign companies attended the initial MMITS Forum
meeting sponsored by Rome Lab on March 13 in Arlington, VA. The
membership includes telecommunications users, equipment suppliers,
developers of hardware and software technology products/systems, and
service providers/system operators. In addition to working toward the
adoption of an open architecture for advanced wireless systems, the
group will also accelerate development and use of software definable
radio systems, address market requirements, and promote the development
of standards for those systems. The two day meeting will include
presentations on markets, requirements, and existing technical
architectures leading to the initiation of discussions on standards for
architectures. Work will also continue on items initiated at the first
meeting, including: adoption of the scope and mission statement, the
standards process, and affiliation with other groups. It is anticipated
that a Marketing Committee, a Technical Committee, and an
Administrative Committee will be formed and interim chairs elected.
