202/366-4971 The Dept. of Transportation, Transportation Administrative
Service Center (TASC), plans to release a Request for Proposal (RFP)
for a high-speed (10 megabits or higher) connection between the DOT
Headquarters backbone and the Internet. The contractor must process
multiple, direct, redundant high-speed connections between its backbone
and the Internet and process a high-speed ''national'' backbone (T-3 or
ATM) with multiple access points and Points of Presence. The
anticipated release date is the first half of August 1996 and the RFP
is planned to have forty-five (45) day proposal due date. The RFP and
related documents will be available electronically 24 hours a day via
the DOT World Wide Web (WWW) Server and Gopher if you are directly
connected to the Internet. When connected, please fill in the
registration information completely and follow the instructions to
download the documents. You can reach the DOT WWW Server at
''http://www.dot.gov''. When connected, select the link title ''Browse
the DOT Administrations'', then the item titled ''Transportation
Administrative Service Center,'', then the item titled ''Acquisition
Services, and then the RFP under the heading ''TASC CBD Notices and
Solicitations''. You can reach the DOT Gopher Server at
''gopher.dot.gov'' or toll free dial up at 1-800-665-6087. If you have

copies of the RFP, unless a request is received electronically via

copies should be submitted as soon as possible after the date of this
synopsis. DOT anticipates that any amendments to the RFP will be
disseminated to vendors via the method the RFP was received. DOT will
