Houghton, Contract Specialist, (309) 681-6616 The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Midwest Area, has a requirement for a Drum Drier. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issues. Solicitation number 5114-6-3024. This solicitation is issued as a request for quotations (RFQ). The solicitation document and incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular 90-38. This solicitation is unrestricted. CLIN 0001 Double Drum Drier, Includes all operating and service manuals, 1 each. CLIN 0002 Installation Advice and Technical Assistance (To allow qualified ARS personnel to install and start-up the dryer, 1 job. CLIN 0003, Packaging, Shipping, and Handling, 1 each. The salient characteristics of the above equipment is as follows: The double drum drier shall be steam-heated to dry pound quantities of cooked starches, starch derivatives, and starch composites. This cannot be a prototype piece of equipment. The overall construction shall be: chrome plated steel and shall be designed for a working steam pressure of 100 psig. Drum faces shall be finished to an approx. 16 micro-inch surface with approx. 0.006-inch of chrome thickness. The separation between the two drums (i.e.nip) shall be adjustable. The dryer shall be equipped with removable end dams to seal the nip area. Drum rotation shall be variable between approx. 1-1.5 and 8-12 rpm. The dryer shall be equipped with dry material receivers for manual collection of samples. Since liquid samples will be non-toxic and will be transferred manually to the nip area of the dryer, it is not necessary to equip the dryer with a vapor hood and automatic feed device. The Size and Weight of the dryer shall not exceed 8,000 pounds. The dryer shall be located on a third floor, and the elevator used to transport the dryer has a 6,000 pound maximum capacity. If the dryer exceeds 6,000 pounds, it shall be able to be disassembled into its component parts for transport. If this is necessary, the successful offeror shall provide technical assistance in disassembling and reassembling the dryer at no additional cost to the government. To provide easy manual addition of liquid samples to the nip, the height of the dryer from floor to top of the drums shall not exceed 5 feet. The drum length shall be a minimum of 24-inches, and drum diameter shall be a minimum of 18-inches. Electrical: The motor shall operate from a 220/440 volt, 3 phase, 60 hz source or a 220 volt, 1 phase, 60 hz source. Safety: The electrical and mechanical systems shall conform to OSHA safety standards. The standard commercial warranty shall apply. Repairs within the warranty period shall be available within 30 days either by sending parts to the successful offeror's designated repair site or by onsite repair service call.
