The US Department of Energy, Savannah River Operations Office, intends to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the transportation of foreign spent nuclear fuel approximately August 23, 1996. This procurement is for all the necessary services required to prepare, package, load and transport spent nuclear fuel from foreign countries to the United States with destination of either the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina, or the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The anticipated contract type is a Task Order Contract with firm-fixed price and/or cost-plus-fixed-fee tasks for a period of performance of five years. The RFP will be issued on or about August 23, 1996 with proposals due on or about October 7, 1996. A pre-proposal conference is planned for on or about September 5, 1996 at the Savannah River Research Campus, Aiken, SC. A Sources Sought Notice was published in the June 5, 1996 issue of the Commerce Business Daily. Firms which expressed interest in response to the Notice, were placed on a list to receive the RFP and need not respond to this announcement.
