Bell, 301-227-1113. The Carderock Division Naval Surface Warfare
Center intends to negotiate a sole source procurement with Lake Erie
Design Co. for the manufacture of a thin, leachable ceramic core. The
cores are for a 6.2 research and development project to explore a new
way to make bronze castings. The ceramic core shall have the toughness,
erosion resistance and chemical inertness to withstand contact with
flowing, molten bronze, survive the forces ofcontraction during
solidification, and yet be capable of being completely leached out of
the bronze casting after it has been cooled without damaging the bronze
casting or affecting the properties of the bronze. An acceptable
leachant for the cores is 40 percent sodium hydroxide at 150 degress
fahrenheit. Only one responsible source and no other supplies or
services will satisfy agency needs under the authority of FAR 6.302.1.
