COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 11,1996 PSA#1677NEW MEXICO SCHOOL SECURITY AND ANTI-VIOLENCE PROGRAM Sandia National
Laboratories' Security Research and Technology group, in support of
Sandia's Education Outreach group, in partnerships with: New Mexico
Department of Education, New Mexico Department of Public Safety, PNM,
and New Mexico Citizens' Crime Council is involved in the formation of
an Anti-Violence Program. We are currently looking for companies in
the security/safety market segment to participate in a possible
collaboration on a school security effort. The New Mexico School
Security and Anti-Violence Program is a pilot project that is at Belen
High School in Belen, New Mexico. The program goal is to make schools
a safer environment for students and staff by deterring and/or
detecting (1) the presence of weapons, (2) the presence/use of alcohol
or drugs on campus, (3) acts of violence, and (4) vandalism and theft.
Five to eight additional schools will be addressed in the next three
years, contingent on funding. We wish to include a security services
contractor in the program during the pilot studies. The selected
company (or companies) will gain information on the School System's
needs in the area of security products/services. This partnership will
be contingent upon future funding being available from the Department
of Energy. In addition, it is envisioned that the selected vendor(s)
will then be available to support the schools, once the research
project is complete. Funding to support the schools after the program
is complete will be contingent upon funding being available from the
school districts. The estimated value of this partnership is unknown at
this time. The capabilities that are sought are knowledge and
experience in the following areas: installation and servicing of video
systems, recording capabilities, interior and exterior sensors, ID
cards, biometric identification techniques, drug detection techniques,
alcohol detection techniques, and weapon detection technologies.
Selection will be based on the capabilities of the contractor as
described above, and on the location of its services. Interested
companies or organizations should respond initially by telephone or fax
to: Mary Green, (505)844-7746, fax (505)844-0708, between October 1 and
October 3, 1996, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (Mountain
Time). Further instructions for application will then be issued to
those who reply. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0528 19960910\SP-0002.MSC)
