Point, Julie Adams, (202) 720-9891 The U.S. Department of Agriculture,
Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is interested in learning of
new technologies that will assist us with verification of hazard
reduction, particularly pathogenic hazards, from farm to table. FSIS is
principally interested in technologies that are developed and of proven
efficacy, or ready for applied efficacy testing. The agency is
primarily interested in technologies that assist, facilitate, or
simplify inspection verification of hazard reduction, to include, but
not be limited to: (1) Sanitation devices that rapidly and effectively
verify facility cleanliness. (2) Farm or transportation pathogen
reduction technologies, procedures, or practices that minimize the
subsequent occurrence or multiplication of pathogens on inspected
products. (3) Technologies to verify that inspected and passed product
has been handled during distribution in a manner consistent with good
manufacturing practice. (4) Pre-harvest residue detection methods with
sufficient sensitivity and specificity to complement in-plant
(post-harvest) residue testing that will occur under the Pathogen
Reduction/HACCP final rule (Federal Register 1996; 61(44):38806-38989).
(5) Methods that, by improving inspection presentation, reduce injuries
from repetitive motion associated with post-mortem inspection. (6)
Technologies to facilitate rapid marketplace verification that either
raw or ready to eat products are free of violative biologic or chemical
residue levels. (7) Technologies to rapidly assess the amount of added
water. Responses should identify how the proposed technology will
facilitate or verify pathogen or other hazard reduction, and justify
the need for the technology. Technologies that address the needs of
small businesses are of particular interest to the agency. Interested
vendors should submit their responses by October 7, 1996. This request
is for information and planning purposes only and does not commit the
Government. There is NO SOLICITATION AVAILABLE. FSIS does not intend
to award a contract based solely on the information received. (0274) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0014 19961001\B-0004.SOL)
