COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 19,1996 PSA#1724Army Research Laboratory, ALC Procurement Division, ATTN:
AMSRL-CS-AL-PC, 2800 Powder Mill Road, Adelphi, MD 20783-1197 66 -- ENVIRONMENTAL SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY SYSTEM SOL
DAAL01-96-R-9443 DUE 121396 POC Robin Stoltz, Contract Specialist,
(301) 394-3381, Patricia S. Silsby, Contracting Officer, (301)
394-3438. This procurement is for the purchase for one Electro Scan
2020 Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy System. This is a sole
source procurement to Phillips/Electro Scan, Wilmington, MA, since
they are the only source who can supply an Environmental Scanning
Electron Microscopy System to meet the Army's needs. The following are
salient characteristics of the Environmental Scanning Electron
Microscopy System: 1) Gaseous Secondary Electron Detector (GSED)
capable of imaging throughout the entire environmental range of 0.1 to
50 Torr, and a Backscattered Electron Detector capable of imaging
throughout the entire environmental range of 0.1 to 50 Torr; 2) dual
pressure limiting aperture configuration with pumping between the two
aperatures, providing the capability for operation of the microscope
with the sample chamber held at pressures of greater than 10 Torr and
up to 50 Torr under Nitrogen and Argon environments; 3) ability to
supply water vapor into the specimen chamber as a controlled gas: 4)
provides automatic switching between two gases during the course of an
experiment which provides the capability to examine the response of
advanced materials under changing conditions as may be encountered
under actual materials operating conditions; 5) ability to operate with
a beam gas path length of as small as 2 mm for both imaging and x-ray
analysis purposes. All responsible sources may submit a bid or proposal
which will be considered by the Agency. No telephone requests will be
honored. See Numbered Note(s): 22. (0320) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0207 19961118\66-0002.SOL)
