Project is comprised of up to 16.4 miles of new forest road
construction on Kupreanof Island in southeast Alaska. The construction
will begin from the existing forest road system approximately 21 road
miles from the village of Kake, Alaska. Work consists of 9.9 miles of
16 foot wide road construction, and 6.5 miles of 14 foot wide road
construction. Including staking, clearing and grubbing, excavation,
quarry development, borrow excavation, haul, endhaul, furnishing and
installing culverts, log bridges and modular bridges, rip rap and
seeding and fertilizing. The nearest community is the village of Kake,
which is 21 miles from the beginning of the project. The nearest full
service community is Petersburg, approximately 42 air miles southeast
of Kake. Contract time is 180 days with an anticipated start work date
of 5/1/97. Estimated price range is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000.
