National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) is seeking the names of
contractors capable of converting and indexing microfilm on rolls into
images accessible using CD-ROM technology. Sources should also be
capable of providing equipment for accessing and reading CD-ROM disks.
Ginnie Mae is a government corporation within the United States
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Ginnie Mae insures
securities which are backed by pools of Federal Housing Administration,
Department of Veterans Affairs, and Rural Housing Services insured or
guaranteed mortgages. Microfilm has been used to archive records
associated with the securitizations. Film is accessed using a
computer-based system. There are approximately 12,500,000 frames of
microfilm on 5,700 cartridges. Respondents are asked to provide a
general description of how the project will be approached, how the work
will be performed, and an approximation of the cost of performing the
conversion and supplying the equipment. Responses are due by mail to
the Ginnie Mae Contracting Office, 451 7th St., SW., Room 6151,
Washington, DC 20410 or to FAX number (202) 708-3239 no later than
January 24. This is a preliminary request for possible sources and may
or may not result in the issuance of a solicitation for this work.
