Contracting Officer, (703)602-0267 The Naval Sea Systems Command
intends to issue a solicitation to Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS),
4101 Washington Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607 for the design and
construction of an Advanced Large Scale Vehicle (LSV II). These efforts
include all engineering, technical, coordination, support and
manufacturing efforts necessary to design and construct LSV II. LSV II
will replicate large scale submarines in design and capability and is
to be used as a demonstration platform for the insertion of new
submarine technologies related to deep diving, nuclear powered attack
submarines. It is, therefore, mandatory that the designer/builder of
LSV II has knowledge and insight into current Navy nuclear submarine
design practices plus the demonstrated ability to design, build, and
deliver nuclear powered attack submarines within schedule constraints.
Only qualified nuclear powered attack submarine shipbuilders are known
to possess the capabilities to satisfy the Governments' requirements.
It is envisioned that NNSwill team, via a subcontract, with Electric
Boat Corporation, 75 Eastern Point Road, Groton, CT 06340 for some of
