COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF FEBRUARY 5,1997 PSA#1776NASA Langley Research Center, Bid Distribution Office, MS 126, Hampton,
Virginia 23681-0001 D -- LEASE AND MAINTENANCE OF MSC/PATRAN SOFTWARE POC NASA Langley
Research Center, Industry Assistance Office, Mailstop 144, Hampton,
Virginia 23681-0001. NASA/LaRC is hereby soliciting information for the
lease, purchase, and maintenance of a general purpose computer-aided
engineering software system. The Proprietary Software Package,
MSC/PATRAN3 bundle, and the P3/ANALYSIS MANAGER, the P3/THERMAL,
P3/FEA, P3/ADVANCED FEA, P3/LAMINATE, P3/FATIGUE, and the MVISION
analysis modules, the MIL-HDBK-5E, MIL-HDBK-17, and PMC-90 materials
databases, and the IGES, PRO/ENGINEER, UNIGRAPHICS, CATIA, MSC/NASTRAN,
SINDA, and TRASYS translators are marketed by MacNeal-Schwendler
Corporation. The software called MSC/PATRAN is a mechanical
computer-aided engineering package that uses interactive graphics to
link engineering design, analyses, and results evaluation functions.
The software executes on the following workstations and operating
systems: SGI with IRIX, SUN with Solaris, IBM with AIX, Digital with
Digital UNIX, HP with HP-UX. The software requirements include pre- and
post- processing of finite element analyses data, as well as integrated
advanced finite element, thermal, fatigue, materials, and composite
analysis packages. MVISION, a material database evaluator, interfaces
with PRO/ENGINEER or MSC/PATRAN3 to allow quick selection of material
data from the following standard databases: MIL-HDBK-5E, MIL-HDBK-17,
and PMC-90. MVISION also allows a user to create and access a custom
made database. The software includes parametric cubic representation of
the Bezier surface, a thermal module which solves multidimensional
steady state and transient combined-mode heat transfer problems, an
advanced finite-element module that performs both linear and non-linear
static analyses, modal, buckling, transient dynamic and frequency
response analyses, a fatigue module which uses results from
finite-element analyses to perform fatigue analyses, a materials module
which allows graphical display and organization of user generated
material properties, as well as materials in MIL-HDBK-5E, MIL-HDBK-17,
PMC-90, and interfaces to PRO/ENGINEER, UNIGRAPHICS, CATIA, IGES,
MSC/NASTRAN, SINDA, and TRASYS. The software also includes a
programming language to allow user customization of the graphical
interface and routines to link to the program's database. The software
provides a graphical interface to the p-elements used in MSC/NASTRAN
and a beam section library to enable the quick calculation and
visualization of beam cross-sectional properties. The software also
provides support for heat-transfer analysis done with MSC/NASTRAN. The
required services include all updates and bug fixes to the software,
a user hot-line consultation service during normal business hours, and
online documentation. Vendors having the capabilities necessary to
meet or exceed the stated requirements are invited to submit
appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references.
Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or
commercial-type product. A commercial item is defined in "Note A".
[INTERNET ONLY (commercial product definition). This synopsis is for
information and planning purposesand is not to be construed as a
commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for
information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results
of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be
considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. Firms
responding should indicate whether they are a socially or economically
disadvantaged business firm, an 8(a) firm, a small business, and/or
woman-owned business. The Government reserves the right to consider a
small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto. All
responses shall be submitted to identified point of contact no later
than 14 days from the date of publication of this announcement. In
