323-2921. Request information on proven, documented commercial
materials and/or methods for the removal of rubber deposits from runway
surfaces. Rubber deposits originate from the wheels of landing military
aircraft. Information is sought on mechanical and chemical removal
methods. Removal of rubber is required on Marine Corps airfield landing
surfaces. The landing surfaces are created from interlocked aluminum
panels (AM-2 mats). Mats are coated with an epoxy nonskid material.
Rubber removal material or method must not substantially attack,
degrade or remove nonskid coating along with rubber build-up. Materials
or method must not be corrosive or damaging to aluminum skin of mats.
Materials or method must comply with existing state and local
regulations pertaining to runoff or release of any hazardous materials
into the soil or air. Process will initially be used on airfield
surfaces located in Southern California (29 Palms, CA). The information
provided must include technical description of method, Material Safety
Data Sheets of any hazardous materials required, present users of
materials or method, and user references. Respondents to this Request
for Information are invited to submit information on methods for the
removal of rubber deposits from runway surfaces. Any information
provided may/may not be included in a formal solicitation. The
Government will not pay for any information receieved in response to
this RFI nor will the Government compensate any respondent for any
costs incurred in developing the information provided to the
