Blevins, (301) 594-5569. The National Institute of Dental Research
intends to negotiate on a sole-source basis with Science Applications
International Corporation (SAIC) to investigate whether or not there
are identifiable adverse health effects associated with amalgam
fillings in adults. The proposed study population will consist of
approximately 2200 Air Force personnel, active and retired, who are
participating in the Air Force's "Agent Orange" 20-year longitudinal
epidemiologic study. The SAIC, under contract with the Air Force
Medical Corps to conduct the 15-year follow-up comprehensive health
examinations in 1997-1998, has unique access to the "Agent Orange"
study population. As an additional component to the 1997-1998
epidemiological study, the cohort of men will be examined for their
oral health status, in particular, for the number and quality of their
dental restorations. Negotiations will be on a sole source basis under
authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. See Note
