COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 11,1997 PSA#1799OPTICAL STATE-OF-CHARGE MONITOR FOR LEAD-ACID BATTERIES Sandia National
Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico, has invented an Optical
State-of-Charge Monitor for Lead-Acid Batteries (SD-5922). This
invention results in a compact and simple to operate system to monitor
the absorption of light as a function of the concentration of
sulphuric acid in the battery, and thereby, the state of charge of the
battery. Optical fibers are employed in various ways inside the
battery to preferentially sense at desired wavelengths. Sandia is
making this technology available to companies interested in further
developing and maturing this technology into a market-ready product.
Licensees should also have a proven business development skills and
acumen, and possess the financial capability to bring the technology to
market. Successful licensees will, therefore, have a proven track
record of securing funding, assembling multidisciplinary teams of
scientists and engineers, and providing management structure to these
teams during development and marketing. Successful licenseesshould also
possess strong experience in patent law and the legal protection of
inventions and technology in the United States and abroad. For further
