Canal Commission (PCC) a United States Government Corporation, intends
to acquire the services of an Architect/Engineer (A/E) firm to design
a world class Visitor Center at the Miraflores Locks, Republic of
Panama. The ceremonial transfer of the Panama Canal to the Republic of
Panama at noon on December 31, 1999, will be showcased by the new
Visitor Center. PCC wishes to improve and extend the existing facility,
integrate it with the existing theater and related facilities and add
a multimedia presentation. The facility design, displays, and
multimedia presentation shall consider and reflect the Canal's
location, its importance to the world, and its past, present, and
future. A/E firms will be evaluated on their experience on similar
projects as well as that of the multimedia subcontractor they propose.
Interested firms shall document the above experience in their
submission. The estimated price range for the project is between $1
million and $5 million. The design must be completed in time to allow
the construction and multimedia work to be finished early in 1999. The
construction and demolition efforts associated with this project shall
not interfere with the Panama Canal daily transit operations. This will
be a firm, fixed price A/E contract. Standard forms 254, A/E Related
Services Questionnaire, and 255, A/E Related Questionnaire for Specific
Project shall be submitted to Panama Canal Commission, Engineering and
Construction Bureau, Engineering Division, Unit 2300, APO AA 34011-
2300. Selection will be based on the combined use of SF-254 and SF-255.
All responses received by April 24, 1997, will be considered for the
work. The contract for A/E services will be negotiated. Estimated price
range is between $100,000 and $250,000. No other general notification
for this work will be made and no further action beyond submission of
