39 -- AUTOMATION MAIL BARCODE VERIFICATION EQUIPMENT FOR AUTOMATION OF INSPECTION OF INCOMING PRESORTED, PRE-BARCODED MAIL POC CONTACT POINT-Pauline C. McTeer, FAX (703) 280-8412 The Postal Service is seeking information from sources who have commercially available equipment which can be readily modified and integrated into a single device to accomplish the following from a random obtained sample extracted from a volume discounted mailing: (a) Read mail sack barcodes and tray labels, (b) conduct presort verifications, count and weigh mailing samples, short paid verifications, barcode reability and accuracy verification, endorsement and rate markings verifications, and (c) generate and save verification statistics by automating PS Form 2866 and DM 102 procedures. After employee entry of a few parameters, all or most needed information should be automatically measured and the results used to calculate and display such parameters as bulk postage due, etc. The system should prompt the acceptance employee to perform specific procedures when needed and must be capable of handling all combinations of letter and flat mail. USPS is considering the purchase of a production quantity of 200-400 units of this equipment in early FY98 for delivery beginning in three months and completed in nine months after award. Systems should meet a floor space requirement of six (6) feet by eight (8) feet, and be capable of operating at or near loading docks in unairconditioned environments. Firms who have equipment which will perform theese functions are invited to submit the following information: (1) a detailed description of their available equipment and the modifications required to meet the USPS's functional requirements; (2) past performance information; (3) ability to meet the USPS delivery schedule; (4) description of quality programs; and (5) description of production facilities.
