Interested parties may respond by E-mail to the following address:,
gwallis@central.unicor.gov. Federal Prison Industries, Inc. (FPI),
which operates under the trade name UNICOR, intends to award a
follow-on contract under sole source authority for panel systems to
Krueger International, P.O. Box 8400, Green Bay, WI 54308-8400. FPI's
current contract for panel based systems expires on September 30, 1997.
Other potential vendors may identify their interest and capability to
respond to this requirement. See Numbered Note 22. FPI is a
wholly-owned Government Corporation within the Department of Justice,
under the Federal Prison System. The Corporation was created by
Congress in 1934, and provides employment, education, and training
opportunities to inmates under Federal custody. FPI's mission is to
employ and provide skills training to the greatest practicable number
of inmates in Federal correctional facilities necessary to ensure the
safe and secure operation of such institutions, and in doing so,
produce market priced, quality goods in a self-sustaining manner that
minimizes potential impact on private business and labor. During the
past nine years, FPI has formed a partnership with Krueger
International's OEI Division to provide systems furniture to the
Department of Defense and other Federal agencies. Extending the
existing systems furniture contract will provide a stable manufacturing
base, maintain inmate employment levels, and minimize the disruption of
operations. This contract will be for up to five years while FPI
diversifies its product line with a pending desk based system. (0122) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0516 19970507\71-0001.SOL)
