516-773-5584 WEB: U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, http: www.usmma.edu.
E-MAIL: John W. Muir, MuirJ@usmma.edu. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
is seeking a contractor who has experience in on-site cleaning and
refurbishing large projection screens that is a permanent component of
a visual training system facility. Experience in screen fabrication
and installation is considered desirable. The theater screen area of
the facility is undergoing major change in order to accommodate
teaching classrooms and supporting multimedia equipment. Modifications
to this area include a major construction phase, which will generate
significant dust, debris, etc.. As a consequence, on-site cleaning and
potential refurbishment of the large projection screen in this area is
anticipated. The contractor must be capable of analyzing the screen
surface material and determining the appropriate cleaning process and
cleaning chemicals necessary to remove environmental contaminants
including dust, oil, stains, etc.. Refurbishment may be required,
potentially involving such activities as re-attaching the screen
surface material to the semi-rigid backing. Potential contractors are
advised that a site inspection is necessary to understand the scope of
work. At that time, supporting documentation of the theater area will
be provided. The screen surface is a mosaic of lenticular vinyl-type
material attached to a semi-rigid backing using contact-type adhesive.
The overall projection screen is cylindrical in shape covering an arc
of 240 degrees and having overall dimensions of 15 feet high and a
radius of 25 feet. Site visits will be possible from 19 May to 23 May
97 between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST.. Appointments
will be accepted through this period between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and
3:30 p.m. EST.. Call (516) 773-5432 to schedule appointments only.
Interested contractors should respond with the following information:
Provide a history of the company and its experience/involvement with
projection screen cleaning/refurbishment and screen design,
fabrication, and installation if applicable. State the nature of the
work performed. Qualified sources should submit their responses no
later than COB 6 June 97 to Contracting Officer John Muir. Electronic
submissions are preferred (muirj@usmma.edu). Mail and FAX at (516)
