E-MAIL: U.S. EPA -- Cincinnati Contracts Management Division,
roe.kathleen@epamail.epa.gov. The U. S EPA National Risk Management
Research Laboratory has a requirement for a computerized, automated
respirometer is required for conducting experiments that monitor
continuously the respiratory activity of bacteria consuming crude oil
hydrocarbons over periods of weeks to months. The system shall be able
to monitor oxygen uptake continuously over time while bacteria degrade
oil or hydrocarbons in aqueous or solid media. The data shall be
recorded continuously via a personal computer hookup using appropriate
software. The software shall be able to display the oxygen uptake
curves on a color monitor or derivatives of the uptake curves (i.e.
uptake rates), and the operator shall be able to display the oxygen
uptake curves for any or all flasks in operation. The respirometer
shall be equipped with an alkaline trap for measurement of carbon
dioxide evolution evolved into the headspace. Each flask in the
respirometric system shall be independent of all other flasks, and the
headspaces shall be kept completely separate at all times to prevent
bacterial contamination or escape of volatile components from the oil
under study. The respirometer shall be equipped with an accurate water
bath to control temperature within the range 15 to 50 C. Response date
is approximate. Please submit your request for an RFQ in writing via
e-mail or fax to the POC listed above. (0197) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0018 19970718\A-0018.SOL)
