THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. The purpose of this notice is to identify
interested, capable sources to produce a commercial aircraft boresight
system. The government is planning to evaluate the innovative concept
of a Common Boresight System (CBS). A commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS)
boresight system is sought to demonstrate and validate the potential
payoff of a CBS on multiple Air Force aircraft. The CBS should be
presently operational, fielded, and fully qualified to military
specifications, and should be adaptable to tri-service airframes. The
CBS should demonstrate the following characteristics: interoperability
(boresight multiple aircraft), versatility (boresight multiple
aircraft subsystems), transportability (fit into a total 60 cubic ft or
less), robust (operate in benign as well as austere environments and
locations, including high winds, rain, and temperature gradients), high
operational availability, accuracy (+/- 0.25 milliradians), short
duration of boresight time, simplicity (ease of use and minimal
maintenance personnel required), economical (low system support and
maintenance cost), short breakeven time (saving greater than cost in
less than five years), maintainability (high serviceability and low
logistics support required), and practical (easily integrated into Air
Force inventory). From one to three systems and their support services
must be available by August 1997. The systems must be available on a
lease basis, and will be leased from a period of 5-18 months and used
primarily in the AEF Battlelab at Mountain Home Air Force Base, ID.
Systems may also be used at any CONUS AFB and/or deployed locations.
This is a request for information and market survey only. All
interested parties should provide at no cost to the government,
information concerning their company capability to provide the systems
and services described herein. Information should include at least a
brief capabilities statement, previous experience, and/or additional
information which supports the ability to fulfill this synopsis. One
system may be chosen for a funded demonstration at Mountain Home AFB,
ID and Hill AFB on F-15, F-16 aircraft and LANTIRN. Firms having the
ability to provide this service should notify Steve Topper in writing
prior to 5:00 p.m. EDT on 7-24-97. Email notifications will be accepted
at SteveTopper@msn.com or faxed notifications will be accepted at (937)
