NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ5-35714-920) for the purchase of a high speed aspheric grinding attachment and electronic gage head & integrated amplifier. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from Precitech Ultra Precision Technology as the only company in existence in the US that produces precision diamond turning equipment; the components being purchased are produced exclusively by Precitech for their machines. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 3 days from the publication date of this synopsis on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) to submit in writing their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 3 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract, on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the Government.
